Word is ideal for writing and editing but poor for delivering. A .docx can open differently on every computer: fonts change, margins shift, tables break in a different place. PDF fixes that by freezing the document exactly as you finished it, so it looks the same on any screen, system or printer.
That is why PDF is the expected format once a document is ready to circulate: a CV sent to a recruiter, a business proposal, a contract for signing or an academic paper for submission. As well as preserving the appearance, PDF stops anyone from changing the content by accident when they open the file.
Unlike tools such as merge and split PDF, which run entirely in your browser, a faithful Word-to-PDF conversion needs a server. Reproducing the Office layout exactly — fonts, tables, headers, page breaks — relies on a robust document engine that is not practical on your device alone.
We would rather be transparent about this than promise an in-browser conversion that would come out crooked. The server makes sure the final PDF is faithful to your document, from line spacing to image placement, with no surprises when someone else opens the file.
Because the conversion happens on the server, we take care with your document seriously. The file is sent over a secure connection, processed in isolation and deleted immediately after the PDF is delivered. We keep no copies, do not inspect the content and do not use your documents for any other purpose.
We state clearly, in the tool itself, that processing happens on the server, precisely so you can decide knowingly. If the document is extremely confidential, one alternative is to export it as PDF inside Word itself, in an offline application.
The vast majority of documents convert with full fidelity: text, styles, lists, tables and images appear in the PDF as they were in Word. Common fonts are preserved, and the result keeps the pagination you saw on screen when you finished the file.
Documents with very unusual fonts or advanced features may have small adjustments, since a font that is not installed has to be replaced with an equivalent. For critical work, it is worth checking the generated PDF before sending it — and, if you want a lighter final file, you can compress the PDF afterwards.

There is a per-file limit in free use to keep the service fast for everyone. The premium plan raises that limit.
Yes. Since processing is done on the server, it works well even on simpler devices.
